The president of the Republic, peter castleinformed the Colombian authorities that he will not be able to travel to the inauguration ceremony of the elected president of that country, Gustavo Petro, by decision of Congress.
The Foreign Ministry shared on social networks the official letters sent by the Peruvian head of state both to his counterpart, Iván Duque, and to his successor, Gustavo Petro, where he reports that the Legislative Power did not grant him the permission he requires as indicated by the Constitution. .
“The decision of the Congress of the Republic is not consistent, in any way, with the very high value that my Government assigns to the historic relations of friendship, cooperation and desire for integration that unite our countries”he pointed out in his letter to Duque.
Pedro Castillo adds, in the document sent to Gustavo Petro, that he is certain that in the future they will enrich the “rich and dynamic” bilateral agenda.
Likewise, he informs that the vice president, Dina Boluarte, will travel on his behalf.
Congress rejects trip to Colombia
The plenary session of the Congress of the Republic refused to authorize President Pedro Castillo to travel to the city of Bogotá, Colombia, to participate in the presidential change of command that will take place on August 7.
With 42 votes in favor, 67 against and 5 abstentions, the national representation rejected the draft legislative resolution sent by the Executive Power for the authorization of the president’s trip.
