He former president Pedro Castillo denounced the former prosecutor of the Nation Patricia Benavides and the former coordinator of the Special Team against Corruption in Power (EFICCOP) Marita Barreto for alleged pressure on effective collaborators who exposed criminal acts during his Government.
The complaint reaches the provincial prosecutor Jorge Mauro García Juárezalso from deactivated EFICCOP. The former president attributes the crimes of ideological falsehood, coercion and abuse of authority.
According to Castleeffective collaborators in cases such as Marka Group, Petroperu, Tarata Bridge, Shadow Advisors, Anguiaamong others, were influenced to frame him.
The complaint is based, for example, on statements of Sada Goraywho pointed to Patricia Benavides to use your statement for your own benefit; of Bruno Pachecowho said that “the prosecution already had a whole story written”; and of Jaime Villanuevawho revealed an alleged favor to Dina Boluarte in the case The Dynamics of the Center so that she can take over as president.
Castle also includes a report Willax in which it was shown, apparently in the prosecutor’s office Garcia Juareza post-it with an indication supposedly for an aspiring effective collaborator, although no other element was presented to corroborate this. Only the account of the note suggests that it was for an informer.
The complaint reached the office of the National Prosecutor, Delia Espinozabecause it is directed against Patricia Benavideswho has the prerogative of political pretrial proceedings for having been supreme prosecutor.
Prosecutors do not have this benefit. Marita Barreto and Jorge Garciahence Espinoza referred the complaint regarding them to the First Supreme Criminal Prosecutor’s Office already Superior Prosecutor’s Office of the Seventh Criminal Corporate Prosecutor’s Office of Cercado de Lima-Breña-Rímac-Jesús Maríarespectively.
Previous performances
After reviewing the complaint, Delia Espinoza concluded that actions must be carried out prior to the eventual opening of a preliminary investigation. This is because, at the moment, there is no objective elements that link Patricia Benavides with the facts reported and that warrant the initiation of preliminary proceedings.
“It will be based on the actions prior to being established that it will be possible, if applicable, to delimit the allegedly illicit acts that are attributed to Liz Patricia Benavides Vargas in her capacity as prosecutor of the Nation and, based on this, determine if appropriate proceed (with the initiation of an investigation)”, reads the tax provision.
In addition, Espinoza gave a period of 5 business days to Pedro Castillo so that it indicates “in a clear, detailed and precise manner” the accusation against the former supreme prosecutor, as well as present the elements of conviction that it has.
