Castillo faces a request from the Prosecutor’s Office to be imprisoned for 34 years for the alleged crime of rebellion.

However, Judge Gustavo Gutiérrez Ticse issued a singular vote pointing out that when Pedro Castillo was arrested in flagrante delicto, he was not made available to the Congress of the Republic for the lifting of his immunity from arrest.
The TC ruling also refers to the fact that the lawsuit filed requested the release of Pedro Castillo’s former Prime Minister, Aníbal Torres, which is not appropriate since he is not currently free.
This is not the first time that the Judiciary rejects an appeal presented by Pedro Castillo, who is currently serving 36 months of preventive detention in the Barbadillo prison.
On Saturday, the Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court declared unfounded the appeal filed by the former president to revoke the resolution issued by Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley, on May 21, in which he declared the annulment of the criminal process inadmissible. against him for the failed coup d’état of December 2022.
