A sinister plan. Police Commander-in-Chief, Raul Alfaroconfirmed in a statement to the Public Ministry that he did receive an order to arrest Patricia BenavidesProsecutor of the Nation, as well as how to remove all the people who are in Congress at that moment, including the parliamentarians themselves.
This can be read in the document to which Peru 21 had access, where Alfaro tells the Prosecutor’s Office that he received the call from the former Minister of the Interior, Willy Huerta.
LOOK: PJ declares inadmissible habeas corpus that requested freedom of Pedro Castillo
“I received a call via Whatsapp to my number from the Minister of the Interior Willy Arturo Huerta Olivas, who told me that he was in the Government Palace and that he was going to meet with the President of the Republic, at that moment the President told me: ‘General, close Congress, do not allow anyone to enter and remove those who are inside and intervene with the National Prosecutor,’” Alfaro said.
Given the express order of the coup leader, Alfaro asked him about the reasons for the arrest of prosecutor Patricia Benavides, to which Castillo replied that Huerta would explain it to him later.
Other indications from the professor were to provide police protection to his parents’ house, to the house of his premier Betssy Chávez and to Aníbal Torres’ house, before the communication was cut off.
“After the conversation, I informed the Chief of Staff, Vicente Álvarez, and the General Counsel Command, Jorge Angulo, of what the president told me. I then gave the order that the PNP had to guarantee the free functioning of Congress and that the request for the prosecutor to intervene was illogical.Alfaro said.
WENT UNDERGROUND
The PNP chief’s statement commits not only Castillo, but also his allies. One of them, Hannibal Torresannounced that he will go into hiding, after prosecutor Benavides denounced him for rebellion.
“The National Prosecutor for no reason has denounced me for being part of a criminal organization and disturbance of justice. Now she does it for rebellion and other crimes, just for hearing the presidential message… Given this she went into hiding”, announced the lawyer via Twitter.
Keep in mind
- Castillo has been detained since Wednesday. Yesterday, the Judiciary declared a second habeas corpus filed in his favor inadmissible.
- Huerta resigned from the Ministry after the coup, according to what he said, “because of my democratic principles.” However, according to Alfaro, he was in the Palace with Castillo.
