The president of the Republic, peter castleannounced this Tuesday before the United Nations General Assembly that Peru will soon open a diplomatic representation in Palestine.
During his speech at the 77th period of sessions, the Peruvian president considered “indispensable” find a solution to that conflict, based on a “Independent and viable Palestine, and an Israel with secure borders”.
“It is also essential that the international community once and for all assume its responsibilities and promote peace negotiations to find a solution based on the recognition of two states: an independent and viable Palestine, and an Israel with secure borders. Only then can we have a lasting peace.”he expressed.

“The Government of Peru will open a diplomatic representation in Palestine in full compliance with the principle of the universality of diplomatic relations”Castillo Terrones added.
On the other hand, the head of state was in favor of a ceasefire in Ukraine and reiterated the Peruvian position of the illegitimacy of the intervention of the Russian Federation in that country since last February.
“Peru once again reiterates the need for a ceasefire to be agreed in Ukraine, for the protection of civil society affected by the conflict to be increased and for negotiations to begin for a peaceful solution that includes the interests of all parties”he underlined.
On the other hand, Pedro Castillo also recalled that Peru reestablished diplomatic relations with the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and strongly supports their right to self-determination.

Finally, the Peruvian president recalled that our country recognizes the sovereign rights of Argentina over the Malvinas Islands and demanded the start of consultations and negotiations to achieve it.
