The former president Pedro Castillo took advantage of his intervention in the last court hearing before the reading of his sentence (scheduled for November 26) to launch a serious accusation against the former head of parliament, Maricarmen Alva.
Castillo assured that the congresswoman conditioned his support to complete his mandate by handing over two ministries. According to the former president, the request was made on a helicopter trip to the ‘Bicentennial City’ in Ancón, where Alva supposedly told him: “I need two ministries for you to stay until 2026“.

The former president continues his story indicating that he thought it was a joke, so he replied: “When will we go to Contumazá? (city of Cajamarca)”, but Alva confirmed that his request was serious: “You are going to give me or you are not going to give me. You have to share the Government“.
This would have been one of the reasons why they ended up emptying it and placing Dina Boluarte, according to Castillo himself. “I didn’t submit to that,” he said. Likewise, he added that in the end, Alva concluded by telling him: “If you are not going to give me the two ministries, I want you not to touch the agro-exporters of Ica because my husband works there.”
For her part, the congresswoman Maricarmen Alva denied that the conversation existed and described the accusation as “disgraceful.” According to what he said through his X account, he has filed a defamation lawsuit against former president Pedro Castillo.
“There was never such a conversation. I never negotiated or had any dealings with whoever attacked the country. I was always considered an enemy because I defended democracy from day one. Their lie is pure desperation,” she added.
I confronted Pedro Castillo and his coup plans from the beginning. Today, as a convicted person on trial for carrying out a coup d’état, he invents that I asked him for ministries. This is a scam by someone without credibility who seeks to tarnish my honor. I have already filed a defamation lawsuit 🧵

Why is the oral trial against Pedro Castillo?
The main judicial process that has brought Castillo to the prelude to a sentencing reading is focused on the alleged crime of rebelliontypified in the Penal Code. This accusation arises directly from the message to the nation issued on December 7, 2022, where the then president announced the unconstitutional dissolution of the Congress of the Republic, the establishment of an “exception government” and the reorganization of various institutions.
For the Prosecutor’s Office, this act constituted an attempted self-coup d’état, for which he is also charged with the crimes of abuse of authority and serious disturbance of public tranquility.
Beyond this process due to the institutional breakdown, Castillo is also investigated in other files for serious cases of corruption that supposedly occurred during his 18 months in office. The Prosecutor’s Office maintains the thesis that the former president led a criminal organization entrenched in the state apparatus.
These investigations cover alleged crimes of influence peddling and aggravated collusion related to public works tenders, such as the case of the Tarata III Bridge, the alleged irregularities in the purchase of biodiesel in Petroperú, and the alleged favors in military and police promotions.
Although the current oral trial phase focuses on the case of rebellion, the conclusion of this process would open the way for the former president to face the other accusations of corruption, which involve his family environment, former ministers and close collaborators.
