The National Electoral Council (CNE) is the electoral arbiter of the country and does not participate in the debate of the political actors, so its authorities have the responsibility to stay out of it, warned the president of the Electoral Power, Pedro Calzadilla, on Tuesday.
“The rectors have the responsibility to guarantee the conditions so that Venezuelan society can settle its differences through electoral means. Publicly intervening in political diatribes endangers the fulfillment of the task to which we are obliged, “said the country’s highest electoral authority, rejecting personal opinions issued by the rector Enrique Márquez, regarding the presidential election, refers a note of press of the comic entity.
Calzadilla’s statements came at the conclusion of the CNE session in which the implications of Márquez’s repeated public interventions on the national political agenda were discussed.
“This CNE was the genuine result of the iron will of the democratic forces to achieve the political stability that the country longed for through the formation of an impartial, reliable and transparent electoral body. The public opinions constantly issued by Rector Márquez are not only contrary to the commitment we made to the principles of this institution, but also put the peace and balance achieved this year at risk.”
The current electoral authorities were appointed by the National Assembly in May of last year, after which regional and municipal elections were held in November, in which a large part of the political organizations registered with the CNE participated.
