The subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela PDVSA Gas Comunal issued a statement announcing the appointment of Pedro José Caldera Pérez as the company’s new president.
The Executive Directorate of Human Resources of the state hydrocarbons company made the appointment official through account point No. PC-DERRHH-957-2023 dated April 3, 2023.
Caldera Pérez is a Division General of the Bolivarian Army who has held various positions in the public administration, including the general management (in charge) of Bolivarian Ports (Bolipuertos) in 2021.
Now, in this new responsibility at the head of PDVSA GasComunal, Caldera Pérez will have to adapt the company to the new historical moments, since the country is shaping up to develop its productive apparatus and a republican moral conscience must be present in public management.
Background PDVSA Gas Comunal
On February 4, 2021, the Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, reported that requests for arrest warrants were formalized against the then president of Communal Gas PDVSA, Jacob Grey, and three gas filler managers.
This for allegedly being part of a corruption network that was dedicated to charging illegal commissions in dollars for the filling of gas cylinders to companies that distribute this fuel.
Also prosecuted at that time were former plant managers Yhoandry José Guevara Álvarez, Oriana Alejandra Betancourt Corales, Eder Alexis Dugarte and Adán Felipe Contreras Freite, owner of the Maracay Gas 2020 shed where he sold gas bottles in dollars, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
The Public Ministry accused them of their own corruption, speculation, boycott and destabilization of the economy, among other crimes.
Later that year, Caryl Bertho took over as president of PDVSA Gas Comunal.
