President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said this Wednesday (24) that the PEC of Armageproposal for amendment to the Constitution that established that the deputies and senators could only be prosecuted with prior license from the House or Senate, It was a “national shame” and had the “destination that deserved” when being archived.
THE proposal was filed by the Senate after being rejected at the House Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ).
“It was predictable that this would happen. What I think is a historical misconception was to put that PEC in voting. Unnecessary, provocative and passed a poor signal to Brazilian society,” Lula said during a news conference in New York, where he participated in the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).
In addition to changing the rules of investigation and arrest of parliamentarians, PEC also expanded the privileged forum to party presidents. The proposal caused popular dissatisfaction and was the target of demonstrations, last Sunday (21), in all capitals and dozens of Brazilian cities, which asked for the end of the project, as well as another, which foresees amnesty for those who participated in the scammer acts of January 8, 2023.
“The only way for people to be protected is people not doing wrong things. You can’t want a protection that society doesn’t have, why do you want this protection? Are you afraid of what?” Said Lula.
“I think what happened to this PEC was the fate she deserves: disappearing because it was a national shame,” he concluded.
The text had already been approved in the House of Representatives and was sent to the Senate CCJ.
This Wednesday, Senate President David Alcolumbre (Union-AP), Filed the Armage PECafter Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) unanimously rejected the text.
As the Commission considered the text unconstitutional, Alcolumbre stated that the proposal should not be voted by the plenary and determined the definitive filing.
“This presidency, with a very clear regimental regimental, determines its filing without plenary deliberation,” said Alcolumbre, according to the Senate Agency.
