From January 13, 2025Medellín reactivated the measure of beak and plate after a temporary suspension during the Christmas and year-end season. This decision, based on a technical analysis that reflected a reduction in vehicle flow by 21% During the festivities, it allowed more fluid circulation in the city, facilitating the mobility of both residents and tourists.
However, starting this month, the restrictions returned with economic sanctions, which will affect vehicles according to the last digit of their license plate, at a time ranging from 5:00 am until 8:00 pm

The restriction is will apply on all urban roads in Medellín, with some exceptions, and will cover the main arteries of the city and nearby areas to alleviate traffic during rush hours.
Although the measure will affect a large number of vehicles, a series of exceptions are contemplated. Freight vehicles, public transport, special services, accredited media and those with clean technologies (such as electric, hybrid or gas vehicles) will be exempt.
For those who fail to comply with the rule, the authorities have established economic sanctions that can reach up to $711,750, equivalent to 15 current legal daily minimum wages. With this rotation, authorities seek not only to improve vehicle flow, but also to generate a positive impact on traffic quality, while continuing to work on long-term solutions, such as improving road infrastructure and public transportation in the city.
