The Investigative Police (PDI) confirmed that they have already received 40 complaints and that there are a total of 91 victims —until now— of a pyramid scam that includes Carabineros officials as victims and perpetrators and that it was carried out through a website of online sales.
The internal prosecutor’s office of Carabineros opened a summary to determine the responsibilities of the fraudulent action, where at least three lieutenants of the institution are involved in the recruitment of about 18 officials to invest in a pyramid scheme.

The scam was called “Knightsbridge” and was related to the purchase of items on the Internet, with the false promise of tax refunds from abroad, specifically, in Singapore.
“We are in a preliminary stage of complaints where we have attended 40 as PDI in Chile, that gives a total of 91 victims who report having made an investment through a KnightsBridge.com page,” he explained to TVN Commissioner José Acuña of the Cybercrime Investigative Brigade.
Likewise, the PDI official added that “we are carrying out coordinated work with the Public Ministry, in order to continue with the diligence through specialized brigades of the police institution.”
The investigation began after the image of a lieutenant from the Carabineros transit zone with the phrase “fraudster” and his telephone number went viral, which seems to point him out as one of the “captors” of the institution.
From Carabineros they indicated that if it is possible to verify the participation of officials in said pyramid scheme, they will be discharged as soon as possible. It is estimated that due to this, they would have received more than 50 million pesos.
