PCV demands Maduro reveal details of his conversation with Trump

The leadership of the communist party questions the “opacity” surrounding the contacts that are taking place between Nicolás Maduro and Donald Trump and demands a statement from Miraflores

The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) demands that Nicolás Maduro report “immediately and transparently” the content of the telephone conversations he has had with the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

This Sunday, November 30, Trump confirmed that he had a call with Maduro, although he did not give details of the conversation. «I wouldn’t say it went well or badly. “It was a phone call,” the president said in statements to reporters aboard Air Force One.

Given the confirmation by the United States, the communist leadership questions the “opacity surrounding these contacts” and asks Maduro to speak out.

Jackeline López, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the PCV, pointed out that given the “complex situation” that the country is going through due to the “imperialist aggression in the Caribbean,” any “political agreement taken behind the backs of the people could have serious consequences for Venezuela and the entire region,” according to the party’s press release.

According to information published by the Reuters agency, in the conversation that lasted just under 15 minutes, Maduro expressed his willingness to leave Venezuela as long as he and his family received full legal amnesty, the lifting of United States sanctions and the closure of the case he faces before the International Criminal Court. He also asked that sanctions be eliminated against more than one hundred officials linked to his administration, several of them accused by Washington of human rights violations, corruption or drug trafficking.

Another point raised in the conversation, according to two of the sources consulted by the agency, was the proposal that Vice President Delcy Rodríguez assume an interim government that would organize new elections. Trump rejected this request, as well as most of the proposals raised by Maduro and would have given him one week to leave power in Venezuela.

*Journalism in Venezuela is carried out in a hostile environment for the press with dozens of legal instruments in place to punish the word, especially the laws “against hate”, “against fascism” and “against the blockade.” This content was written taking into consideration the threats and limits that, consequently, have been imposed on the dissemination of information from within the country.
