The Presidency of the Council of Ministers will assume the expenses of defense and legal advice of the former head of the cabinet Mirtha Vasquez in the investigation that is followed by the multi-party investigative commission in charge of determining the possible political, criminal and administrative responsibilities that exist around the deaths that occurred during citizen protests started on March 28, 2022.
This is established by resolution 088-2022 of the General Secretariat of the PCM, published on Tuesday, December 6. Vásquez Chuquilín requested the aforementioned benefit after the commission chaired by the Popular Renovation parliamentarian Alejandro Muñante changed her from witness to investigated.
The former premier presented her request based on article 35 of Law 30057, the Civil Service Law, which establishes that every official and former official of the State has the right to “have legal defense and advice, accounting, economic or related advice at to the resources of the entity for its defense” in processes for omissions, acts or decisions adopted or executed in the exercise of its functions.
“It is legally viable to grant the benefit of defense and legal advice requested by Mrs. Mirtha Esther Vásquez Chuquilín, given that the procedural and admissibility requirements are met,” the text reads.

The resolution of the General Secretariat of the PCM also establishes that the General Administration Office and the Planning and Budget Office take the corresponding actions to allocate the amount for the payment of lawyers for Mirtha Vasquez.
