The helmsman of the Communist Party (PC), Guillermo Teillier, addressed the latest statements by former president Ricardo Lagos, who insisted that the constitutional debate will continue after the plebiscite on September 4, although he winked at Approval. “We have a great advantage,” said the former president.
For Teillier, this is a sign that things are “going more toward Approval than Rejection.”

Coming out of a meeting with President Gabriel Boric, the PC president said that Lagos’s most recent clarification “perhaps is a sign that Approval is catching up with Rejection, so to speak, because Rejection until now seemed It was on a winning trend, far away, and we have the impression that at this point it is no longer”.
The communist leader stressed: “What President Lagos has said is a sign that things are moving more toward Approval than Rejection.”
Asked about the possibility of joining the draft initiated by communities of the Broad Front to reform the proposed constitution after the exit plebiscite, Teillier pointed out that “they have not said anything to us.” But in any case, the PC helmsman commented that “our position is that we are open to discuss, but perhaps we have some objections in the form.”
“It seems to us that it is not good to claim popular sovereignty in this case,” he said.
“Why, if there has been a process that has been imposed by the people in which there was an entry plebiscite, a convention was elected, there is going to be a plebiscite, a group of parliamentarians, of political parties are going to attribute the representation of that people?” questioned the former deputy.
Guillermo Teillier reiterated, yes, that “we do not refuse to discuss, it is good to discuss the subject, but how it is expressed is where we have certain doubts”.
“We see that we can begin to discuss this and lose the extraordinary effort that we are making to win with the Approval. We are deploying ourselves in this and we believe that this is the main thing and clarify the issues of the new constitution, everything positive that it has, above all the social aspects”, estimated the communist leader.
With satisfaction, the Communist Party evaluates the work of the government of President Gabriel Boric, despite the challenges that the world economic situation has represented and that has affected Chile with significant inflation. This was part of what was analyzed by the members of the community’s political commission together with President Gabriel Boric at a meeting in La Moneda, where they also evaluated the work for the fulfillment of the program they presented during the campaign.
