The municipal district of Paya, in Baní, Peravia province, became the first territory in the country to implement an intelligent lighting system in its streets, by inaugurating this Thursday a circuit of 110 photovoltaic solar panels with an average monthly capacity of 7,650 kilowatt hours, which allows powering the power lines.
The system, located near the Paya Municipal Board, on Pedro Henríquez Ureña Street, a few meters from the Central Park, incorporates advanced technologies that optimize energy use.
Among its characteristics, energy efficiency stands out, thanks to the modernization capacity and automated on and off control, and the use of renewable energy from photovoltaic solar panels.
When leading the inauguration ceremony of the system, the Minister of Energy and Mines (MEM), Joel Santos, highlighted the importance of this project as an example of cooperation between the public and private sectors, as well as the support of the municipality.
In his speech, Santos highlighted that the energy transition is fundamental for the country, highlighting the use of resources such as solar energy to invest in communities and improve the quality of life.
“This system is a testimony of what we can achieve when we join forces with a clear objective: to guarantee a cleaner, safer and more sustainable future for all,” said Santos.
For her part, Dalma Rosa Arias, mayor of Paya, expressed her satisfaction with the completion of this project, despite the difficulties they faced during its execution.
«This is a historic event for our community. “We have left a precedent for history,” said Arias. The governor of Peravia, Ángela Báez, highlighted the importance of photovoltaic energy as a sustainable and non-polluting source.
She thanked President Luis Abinader for his commitment to projects of this type, which, according to her, will be replicated in other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, Julito Fulcar, senator from Peravia, assured that this project represents a significant step towards the development and modernization of the region.
This model contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with national climate change mitigation goals and promoting a cleaner environment for future generations.
Likewise, the adaptability of the luminaires improves visibility and safety on streets and public spaces.
Present at the opening ceremony were Betty Soto, Vice Minister of Innovation and Energy Transition; Ángela Yadira Báez, the governor of Peravia; Dalma Rosa Arias, the mayor of Paya and Roque Ureña, the project engineer. Margarita Rodríguez, the director of the Motorcycle Department of the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant); Ángela Jáquez, the vice minister of Preventive Security in Provincial Governments of the Ministry of the Interior and Police; Onísimo González, the director of the Student Transportation System (TRAE); and Julito Fulcar, the senator from Peravia.
