During the afternoon of this Saturday, the Socialist Party held the central committee in order to elect its new executive board for the period 2022-2024.
After noon, it was confirmed that Paulina Vodanovic will be the new president of the party, while Senator Alfonso de Urresti and parliamentarian Daniela Cicardini will command the vice presidency. Camilo Escalona won the general secretary of the PS.
After the news and in conversation with Thirdthe brand new president stated that “we have two great challenges in the immediate future, one to support, thus a political vote of the entire central committee has been approved today in the sense of supporting without any hesitation the constituent process and expressing from now on the campaign for approval, so that on September 4 we have a categorical victory”.
“Secondly, loyally support the Government of President Boric with our parliamentarians, with our government teams and with all the technical teams that we have in our party,” he added.
Meanwhile, Nicole Cardoch, Isadora Venegas, Fanny Pollarolo, Arturo Barrios, Leonardo Soto and Eduardo Bermúdez, are the vice presidents who were left in charge of the community.
It should be noted that on May 15, the elections of the Socialist Party were held in order to elect the 110 elected members of its central committee, who elected the new board of directors of the store.
As for the results, Paulina Vodanovic was among the first majority with 2,192 votes, followed by Camilo Escalona with 1,800 and Alfonso de Urresti with 1,185. From a distance they were followed by Eduardo Bermúdez with 1,096 and Daniella Cicardini with 1,062.
In detail, the results of the vote were given as follows: List A “Left Socialist” obtained 1,037 -belonging to Vodanovic, Escalona and De Urresti- which translates into 5.3%. List B, “Socialist Unity” received 14,950 votes, which is equivalent to 76.3%, while List C, “Socialists for a necessary change” obtained 3,603 votes, 18.4%.
Days after the initial calculation, the lawyer Paulina Vodanovic thanked “the great vote with which you have honored me, I am the first majority at the national level, both among the male and female candidates. We will loyally support the Government, we will support the Constitution, Chile needs a new Constitution and we socialists will not have two voices in this”.
“From the presidency of the party I will assume this responsibility following the democratic tradition of our party in which the first majority is the president, and in this case, president of the party, and I will do it on behalf of each one of the militants of this party so that Let’s recover what our founders dreamed for the Socialist Party of Chile”, he communicated on that occasion.
