Paulina Vodanovic (PS) and post-plebiscite scenario: “What is coming is not the Apocalypse, it is legislative implementation, with a legitimized Parliament”

With two weeks to go before the momentous election that will determine the fate of the constituent process, one of the strong leaders within Democratic Socialism, the president of the Socialist Party (PS), Paulina Vodanovic, referred to the repercussions of the official reform agreement to the new Constitution, to the tactic of silence deployed by the right-wing parties, and speculated on the possible scenarios as of September 5.

in conversation with Channel 13, The PS helmsman valued the sense of unity and political will that, in her opinion, prevailed in both government coalitions to sign the agreement that seeks to respond to the “legitimate doubts” of the citizenry, around some aspects of the new Basic Charter. “For me, the objective of the agreement was not electoral. It is an objective of content, of unity, of which the President of the Republic urges us to come to an agreement, and finally that is achieved. It is possible to talk between dissimilar political forces, and have a principle of agreement that is going to be fulfilled,” Vodanovic said.

Regarding the content of these reform proposals, the socialist president added that “these are substantive matters that we are going to comply with. On the right there is no agreement or proposals on what they are going to do as of September 5. They do not have a The route and the right-wing parties have not given certainty in this regard. On the contrary, the Approval route is very clear. I have called on the right to say explicitly if it is for a new Constitution, through an agreement. the right, on the other hand, likes to play with the fear and uncertainty of the citizenry”.

In addition, regarding the tactical decision of the right to withdraw, staying on the sidelines of the political discussion in this final stretch of the Rejection campaign, Paulina Vodanovic believes that “the right has been very clever, hiding behind those who claim to be center-left, and who many years ago stopped believing in the ideas of the center-left. In that group, the PS helmsman names some figures linked to the ex-Concertación, such as Felipe Harboe (former PPD militant), Soledad Alvear and Mariana Aylwin (former DC militants). In this regard, she, who is part of the political committee in the Palacio de La Moneda, believes that the “hard right is silent and hidden behind these people.”

Finally, regarding the steps to follow as of September 5, Vodanovic summoned Rejection to stop frightening citizens, with hypothetical scenarios. “What is coming is not the apocalypse, it is a period of legislative implementation, with a Parliament that is legitimized, and therefore the reforms will be able to be carried out (…) If Rejection wins or Approval wins, the itinerary is the same, and there Congress is going to be the main stage for discussion. Dialogue must always be open, and no matter what happens, the Government has to govern and trace a route with respect to a new Constitution,” he concluded. .
