Paul Sorvino, star of Goodellas, has died

He died this Tuesday Paul Sorvino, protagonist of Goodfellas Martin Scorsese, after suffering health problems in recent years. She was 83 years old. The announcement of his death was made by the publicist on behalf of Dee Dee Sorvino, the actor’s wife, who was by his side at the time of his death.

“Our hearts are broken,” Dee Dee Sorvino said in a statement. “There will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life and one of the greatest artists to ever grace the screen and stage.”

Paul Anthony Sorvino was born on April 13, 1939 in Brooklyn and starred in films such as Goodfellas, Nixon, Dick Tracy, The Rocketeer, For the Love of Money, That Championship Season, Reds, A Touch of Class and Oh, God! among many others. On television she starred in seasons 2 and 3 of Law & Order and on Broadway in That Championship Season.

Sorvino began his career as a copywriter at an advertising agency and attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy before making his Broadway debut in the 1964 musical Bajour. Six years later he appeared in his first film, the cult classic Carl Reiner, Where is dad?, starring George Segal and Ruth Gordon, and in 1971 played a supporting role in the critically acclaimed film The Panic in Needle Parkopposite a young Al Pacino in his first lead role in a feature film.

Sorvino is remembered for playing Paul Cicero, also known as Big Pauly, in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas and for Detective Phillip Cerreta, who starred in the first 31 episodes of NBC’s Law & Order in 1991.

Sorvino founded the Paul Sorvino Asthma Foundation and, with his wife Dee Dee, co-authored the book Pinot, Pasta, and Parties.

Dee Dee and Paul married in 2014 after a chance encounter on the Neil Cavuto show on the Fox News Channel Network.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Mira, Amanda and Michael and 5 grandchildren.

In an unforgettable moment at the 1996 Oscars, her daughter Mira Sorvino, accepting an award for her performance in Mighty AphroditeHe thanked his father, who broke down sobbing.
