Patricia Dos Santos (67) is the candidate for the vice presidency of the Republic for the Patria Querida party. The director of Jobs, a Human Resources company, is precisely one of the founders of the party. She pointed out that the PQ took the time to choose Sebastián Villarejo’s partner in the presidential badge. She revealed that the fact of being a woman and that she had been carrying out institutional politics for several years in the party, placed her among the first places to occupy the place of vice presidency in the formula.
In the 2018 elections, he was ranked sixth on the list of PQ senators, but ultimately only three were elected.
How are your expectations?
Very high are my expectations. The Concertación has us in jump in jump. As it grows, it builds. Now a great hope has been generated, due to all the position adjustments of some of the candidates. And yesterday the inscription was closed and the panorama is already exposed. We are with high expectations, due to the overwhelming response of the people, of the acceptance of this duo. We are very happy and very committed.
How did the possibility arise that you could accompany Villarejo?
Doctor Villarejo offered me, for me it was an honor from the first moment. Sebastián, a person of integrity, a clean politician, with a great present and future in Paraguayan politics. He is the favorite son of Patria Querida because he was the party’s first young president in 2004. He made a very coherent party career. For me it is an honor that you invited me. This is how it came about, I am also a member of the executive management team of Patria Querida, I have been involved in this issue for 20 years.
What is your political background?
Since 2003 I have been part of the lists of Patria Querida for the Senate, and a couple of times for the council of Asunción. I have always been a participant in the lists for electoral control and many tasks that are carried out within political organizations that seek to be strong and enduring over time, to be predictable. I dedicated myself to working more on the institutionality of the party but of course very close to public political activity, towards the outside.
What does Patricia Dos Santos offer the country?
I offer the country my lifelong commitment to improving Paraguay. I have always worked, we work in my company to offer quality services but not purely for market or economic reasons, but because we believe that what we do changes people’s lives. A good job changes people’s lives, working better because they know how to work as a team because they were trained, leadership was developed, it changes people’s lives, that’s what I like about my company.
Who is Patricia Dos Santos?
You are a very committed person, who never stood still, I am restless, demanding, who has a lot of commitment to people so that they improve their lives, upfront, transparent. I am a person who does not like the compromise, the lie. He doesn’t feel good around cheating people who lie. That is the person who is now offering to accompany Sebastián Villarejo, to take the step towards the institutionalization of democracy at this historic moment of a democratic transition that will never end.
How do you see the management of Abdo Benítez?
They have been very difficult years. I think that they did not have in their hands all the tools and all the people that were needed to face this difficult moment, they fought as best they could. I am convinced that more could be done. We are sure that living better is possible and we have proposals so that people can live better.
How did you see the management of Patria Querida in Congress?
Excellent the management of Patria Querida in this parliamentary period. We achieved structural changes in politics that are very transcendent and that we are experiencing now as the unblocking of lists achieved after almost 20 years. We were able to convince people that we should change the voting system, automatic registration. Sometimes it is difficult to publicize this management but there are several laws and projects that we are already promoting. In addition to strengthening the image of Patria Querida as a serious party.
How do you see the Concertación?
The Concertación is experiencing one of its most important moments. We work hard for the existence of the Coalition, trying to generate internal opposition, considering that it is very important that the people decide as third, fourth or fifth space. Now the Concertación is in its stage of competition. Where each group must make its campaign and then comes the stage of the union, where we sit down to work together, the issues have already been defined before.
