Pataxó People’s Crisis Office is extended for another 45 days

The Ministry of Indigenous Peoples (MPI) announced this Wednesday (28) the extension of the Pataxó People’s Crisis Office, created to monitor the case of the murder of two Pataxó indigenous people in southern Bahia in January this year. The group will have another 45 days to complete the follow-up work on the case and guarantee the protection of indigenous peoples in the region.

According to the MPI, after the deaths of Samuel Cristiano do Amor Divino, 25 years old, and Nawir Brito de Jesus, 17 years old, who were shot at, the agency requested the sending of the National Force to the place to ease the intense conflicts with farmers. in the Indigenous Territory (TI) Barra Velha. The Ministry informed, through a note, that it is working together with the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) to sign the TI’s declaratory ordinance.

“The MPI remains in constant alignment and articulation with local indigenous leaders and also plans to send a ministerial delegation to the Pataxó territory, with the presence of the minister of indigenous peoples, Sônia Guajajara, and also to fulfill a joint agenda with the Government from Bahia, to discuss solutions to the conflicts that plague the extreme south of Bahia”, announced the ministry.
