Passengers on domestic flights will not pay a connection fee at Jorge Chávez airport

He Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced that the connection fee (Unified Airport Use Rate or TUUA) will no longer be charged to passengers on domestic flights who use the Jorge Chávez International Airport to connect to another destination within the country.

The connection fee is a payment that covers services for connecting passengers, that is, those who get off the aircraft, use the services and do not leave the terminal, and then continue their trip to another destination.

The MTC clarified that no passenger who only makes flights within Peru will pay said national transfer fee, whether their trip begins, ends or connects with the air terminal.

“This decision is the result of the coordination and agreements reached between the MTC and the airport concessionaire, Lima Airport Partners (LAP),” the MTC said in a statement.

“The non-application of the national transfer TUUA seeks to strengthen the competitiveness of national routes. In this way, the MTC reiterates its commitment to an airport policy that protects passengers and prioritizes the country’s connectivity, through decisions that favor domestic tourism, territorial integration and the competitiveness of Peru,” they indicated.

International rate

On the other hand, the MTC specified that the collection of the international connection fee will only apply to passengers arriving from abroad at the Jorge Chávez International Airport, who use the facilities and continue their trip to another destination outside the country. This charge will come into effect today, December 7.

He maintained that the TUUA is defined in the concession contract signed between the Peruvian State and the concessionaire, as well as the charging of transfer passengers. Its application is regulated and set autonomously by Ositran, in accordance with its functions and the current regulatory framework. The concessionaire has the power to make this charge from the start of operations of the new passenger terminal.

To collect the TUUA for international transfers, the concessionaire has implemented mechanisms that facilitate payment, such as online payment platforms, mobile agents and physical modules.

Transfer TUUA benefits

The transfer TUUA constitutes a relevant resource to maintain the 25 services available to the transfer passenger at the Jorge Chávez International Airport, such as use of boarding lounges, security, medical assistance, baggage clearance, air conditioning, lighting, signage, flight information system, exclusive areas, among others.

In addition, the resources are also allocated for the modernization and maintenance of the 17 regional airports under concession. These are the airports of Iquitos, Piura, Pucallpa, Tarapoto, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Tumbes, Cajamarca, Anta, Chachapoyas, Talara, Pisco, Juliaca, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Tacna and Puerto Maldonado.
