A train of passengers collided with an ambulance this Tuesday in the province of Sagebrushalthough fortunately no victims were reported as a result of the accident.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:00 in the afternoon, in the town of La Quebrada, in the Artemiseño municipality of Candelaria.
The train, which covered the route between Havana and Pinar del Río, and was traveling with three passenger cars, collided with the ambulance when it was trying to cross the line. as reported on its networks by the Cuban Railway Union (UFC).
“According to preliminary investigations, the accident occurred when the ambulance driver tried to cross the railway intersection before the train passed. The vehicle suffered a mechanical failure that stopped its engine, leaving it immobilized on the track and being hit by the locomotive,” the official note notes.
Although the ambulance suffered damage as a result of the crash, there were no deaths or injuries in the vehicle or on the train. Neither the locomotive, nor the cars nor the railway infrastructure were affected.
Thanks to the prompt action of authorities and railway workers, the train was able to continue its journey to Pinar del Río about two hours after the accident, the UFC confirmed.
In its note, the entity deeply regretted what happened and apologized to travelers “for the inconvenience caused.”
Although minor and fortunately without serious consequences, this Tuesday’s crash is the most recent in a series of railway accidents that have occurred in recent times in Cuba, some of which have left victims and considerable damage to equipment and tracks.
