Passage through the Mérida tunnels enabled

Alexis Nava, Secretary of Infrastructure and Roads of the state of Mérida, reported that heavy machinery is maintained at Local 008 to deal with any type of emergency or landslide that could hinder the roadway along this important route, while recovery work is advancing.

The Secretary of Infrastructure and Roads of the government of the state of Mérida, Alexis Nava, activated the vehicular passage in the Local 008 through the tunnels, the main road that connects the capital with the city of El Vigía and the west of the country, and specified that the hours enabled for the circulation of cars were established in two times: from 6:00 in the morning to 9:00 in the morning and from 4:00 in the afternoon to 10:00 at night.

Navas stressed that in Local 008 heavy machinery is maintained to deal with any type of emergency or landslide that could hinder the roadway. This, while they advance in the recovery works of this important main highway of the state of Mérida.

The tunnels of this important road artery were closed after the collapse of the road in the La Perdida sector, at the height of Curva la S, last November due to heavy rains.

A team from Civil Protection (PC) and the Government of Mérida went to the place to carry out prevention and technical evaluation work. “The loss of roadway was caused by the Chama River watershed channel,” PC reported via Twitter.
