All roads converged in the Zocalo this Sunday. And the surrounding streets were also a pilgrimage before the first president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, gave to the crowd the report of his first year of government.
They went to the heart of the Republic, as Sheinbaum herself defined, to listen to it by throwing a resounding message: “Whoever betrays the people, who steals the people, faces justice. Power is not to enrich themselves, it is to serve with humility …”
It was a day of celebration for the fourteists who came to wrap the president. Or almost for everyone. Someone in this Zocalo surely had an awkward day: the coordinator of the Senators of Morena, Adam Augusto López, who, like the rest of the special guests, with the exception of the governors, literally remained behind the bars.
In a very autumn morning, in the Plaza de la Constitución yesterday an unprecedented way of presenting a government report. The president toured for a month the main places of the states to ensure Mexicans: “Our country travels through a path of social justice …”
Thus, for 56 minutes she broken down the figures of her achievements. It was a tight summary of 365 days where some political turbulences have not lacked, especially in the relationship with the northern neighbor and its new government. However, yesterday the president resorted to the weighting again, and only made a direct and optimistic reference: “We will reach a good agreement (commercial) with the United States.” But others were where allusion was clearly understood.
From the beginning of the speech, Sheinbaum dedicated felt expressions of affection and commitment to the founder of this whole political movement: Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Vehemente, the president made a chose to her predecessor: “It was, it is and will always be an example of honesty, austerity and deep love of Mexico. He never surrendered to the pressure, he never sold to the powerful, he never turned away from his principles. And, listen to him well: his president will not do it either!”
And he did not hesitate to sincere himself: the direction of the country is an inheritance of the Tabasco. Everything, signed with a phrase aimed at those who said, struggle for the division between both leaders: “They will not achieve it,” he predicted.
Later, and despite the full of the Zocalo, perfectly audible, desperate: “Paren the genocide in Palestine!” A cry that implied the overwhelming demand to the Sheinbaum government of giving a helm in Mexican foreign policy towards the conflict in Gaza.
With Enjundia, they chanted their claims again when Sheinbaum already appeared before the crowd; carrying some Palestinian flags demanded the breakdown of relations with Israel.
The romantic evocations to the origin of the president’s political movement contrasted with the dozens of banners, balloons and blankets of the transfigured … It was impossible for the actors of the old regime to now converted to fourteism now converted to fourteism: Ricardo Aldana, leader of the oil union-another so close to the ine-feasible Carlos Romero Deschamps, insigne in the first rows of the celebration.
They also roam the contingent and leaders of the revolutionary confederations of workers and peasants (Croc) and autonomous workers and employees of Mexico (CATEM), the Magisterial Union and other letterheads.
But there are also thousands of attendees for whom the presence of corporatism in the first rows, although they move them from the privilege spaces closer to the president, do not mine. They were assumed convinced of the historical nature of this celebration of the anniversary of the government of the first president of the Republic.
And in that holiday mood of the call, many groups were heard through various musical rhythms, ingenious posters and the vintage. Certainly, many musical bands confessed as I pass, having had the sponsorship of dozens of local leaderships throughout the country, who wanted to make them feel to ensure their political future. Either a mayor, or a federal or local deputy, or perhaps a regional brunette leader … Everyone sought to appear with their contingents.
Meanwhile, in the Plaza de la Constitución, in the previous minutes upon arrival of Sheinbaum, from the main temple, in many ways it was tried to encourage people and spoiled the tiredness for the long journey and fainted. And in many cases they succeeded.
Light with the songs of Los Angeles Azules, who performed a group, the Ministry of Energy, Luz Elena González, surprised with a few cumbiamberos dance steps to the very sober secretaries of Foreign Relations, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, and of the Environment, Alicia Bárcena, who were already waiting for the president.
The entire cabinet went to the report, with the exception of public security secretaries, Omar García Harfuch, and Economics, Marcelo Ebrard.
Who barely arrived was the Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Morales, moving on a motorcycle to overcome the intense traffic around the capital’s historic center and arrive just 20 minutes before the start.
His efforts allowed him to listen to Sheinbaum’s core message against corruption and the warning of not enriching himself under power.
