Parties and legislators prepare legal resources against AMLO’s “Plan B”

The presidents of National Action (PAN), Marko Cortés; of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro Moreno, and Jesús Zambrano, of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), announced that they will assert that right, to prevent “the destruction” of the National Electoral Institute (INE) and damage democracy, what in his opinion will be the consequence of applying “Plan B”.

“NO to the authoritarianism of Morena! We are going to file an Unconstitutionality Action to reverse López Obrador’s Plan B. We will defend our democracy, the Constitution and we will fight for the powers of the INE, the courts and for free elections,” Cortés warned on Twitter.

Moreno Cárdenas announced after the promulgation that “the time for the legal battle has arrived.”

In the PRI, he said, “we will resort to all the legal resources necessary to defend democracy, to the INE and to the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF).”

With the publication of the reform in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) “times open” and the PRD already has its appeal practically ready, Zambrano anticipated.

“We trust that the ministers will reverse this mess of regressive laws and put democracy in Mexico ahead,” he said.

And the deputies begin roll call

In addition to the parties, a third of each House of Congress can go to the SCJN in action of unconstitutionality.

For this reason, PRI deputies began to collect signatures between their bench and allies of the Va por México coalition, to present the appeal before the Court.

“We are going to reverse the president’s ‘Plan B’, 167 signatures are needed from Congress and we are the first to sign it,” announced PRI deputy Cynthia López Castro, who along with fellow tricolor legislator Ildefonso Guajardo toured the seats to accumulate supports.

In the Senate, the containment block, which in addition to grouping the PAN, PRI and PRD includes Movimiento Ciudadano and the Plural Group, announced in the voice of the PRD coordinator Miguel Ángel Mancera that the legal recourse to appeal to the Court.

The formula will be to request, as in the case of the first block of “Plan B”, the reforms to the General Law of Social Communication and General Law of Administrative Responsibilities, which entered into force on December 28, their application be suspended.

The legislator defended the decision of Minister Alberto Pérez Dayán, who determined to suspend the validity of the regulations for the June elections in the state of Mexico and Coahuila, in which the merits of the controversies are being analyzed (such as the one presented by the INE). and unconstitutionality actions against that first part of the reform.

This morning, after the publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) of the four laws that include the second package of “Plan B”: amendments to the Law on Electoral Institutions and Procedures (Legipe) and Political Parties ( LPP), as well as the Organic Law of the Judiciary of the Federation, and the decree by which the General Law of the Means of Challenge in Electoral Matters is issued, the INE presented the first electoral trial before the TEPJF.

According to the INE, thousands of specialized workers from the institute itself are also expected to defend their rights before the TEPJF in labor lawsuits.
