LIMA, Peru – A break in a main conduit caused the temporary interruption of water service in the municipality of Guanabacoa and in several areas of Habana del Este the day before, Aguas de La Habana reported.

According to reports from the state company on Facebookthe incident occurred around 4:00 pm in a 48-inch pipeline of the Nudo A–Tanque María Cristina pipeline, located at the intersection of Calzada de San Miguel and 1st Street, in the San Miguel del Padrón municipality.

As a security measure and to facilitate repair work, it was necessary to paralyze seven pieces of equipment at the Fuente de Abasto del Gato.

Specialized brigades from the state company Aguas de La Habana moved to the site and began work with the aim of restoring the supply in the shortest time possible. So far, an estimated date for the total normalization of the service has not been specified.

The water supply crisis in Cuba continues affecting numerous communities throughout the country, with frequent and prolonged service interruptions. In several provinces, entire neighborhoods go days—and even weeks—without receiving piped water, forcing the population to rely on expensive pipes, improvised wells, or domestic storage.

The deterioration of the hydraulic infrastructure on the Island, constant breaks in main conductors and pumping stations, as well as blackouts and electrical fluctuations that damage equipment, are among the main causes of the problem. Added to this are the lack of sustained investments and the effects of periods of drought in some regions.

In Havana, the situation has generated citizen protests and street closures in different municipalities, while residents denounce delays in repairs and irregular distribution cycles.

In the east of the country, Cubans living in rural communities report even more critical conditions, with limited access to drinking water and additional impacts on sanitation and public health.
