On Sunday afternoon, a unit from the Institutional Protection Service (SPI) removed a rainbow flag, placed in the middle of a picnic being held by members of the LGBTIQ community in Omar Park.

According to some videos broadcast on social networks, the SPI agent warned the participants that they needed permission from the Office of the First Lady of the Republic to carry out this activity.

When the agent removed the badge from the place, those present shouted “homophobia, homophobia”.

This picnic is part of the commemorative activities of the LGBTIQ Pride Month that is celebrated every year in the country.

On Monday morning, the park administration announced that the situation is being analyzed and the necessary corrective measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

“We reiterate that Omar Park is a place of free recreation for Panamanians to enjoy its facilities. Our commitment is to continue working so that this continues like this”, indicates the letter.
