When presenting the agreement before the plenary, Deputy Oswaldo Vera gave a deserved tribute to the fighter and combatant, who was accompanied by a unanimous applause of the plenary.
The parliamentarian offered a tour of the extensive political career of Jacobo Torres, who from a young age joined the fight for the fair cause of the people, in the student movement in neighborhoods and popular areas of Caracas for the organization against the characteristic repression of that moment. Context in which Vera highlighted the close friendship with the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
In his speech, he recalled that he was an active militant of the PRV, formed in Cuba where he later became a formator. In addition, he noted that Torres attended to the victims of wars in Central America, narrowing ties with the left movement.
He also recalled that he was the founder of the National Constituent Front of the Bolivarian Force of Workers, a militant of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), and highlighted his performance as a union leader whose last responsibility was to serve as an international coordinator of the Bolivarian Socialist Central of Workers .
In this regard, he highlighted his achievements in the task assigned by President Hugo Chávez “demolish the old and rotten CTV, end corruption in the union movement and build a powerful socialist organizational force by the workers.”
