Parlatino learns about Venezuelan public policies to empower women

Public policies and the legal framework of Venezuela that empowers women in leading participation and decision-making, was announced by Venezuelan deputies that make up the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) to the regional body based in Panama.

The president of the Parlatino Venezuela, deputy Ángel Rodríguez (PSUV/Anzoátegui), indicated that during the regular meeting of the Gender, Childhood and Youth Equity Commission, in which the Minister for Women of Panama, Juana Herrera, participated; The Venezuelan representation provided the texts of the Venezuelan laws that demonstrate the progress made in terms of women’s rights.

He asserted that Venezuela is at the forefront in the empowerment of women because for the Bolivarian Revolution they have become the epicenter of political and social events. “Today they occupy positions of command that were previously unthinkable, but, currently, it is a public and notorious fact that we receive with great satisfaction,” Rodríguez expressed.

In the regional parliamentary meeting “Balance and challenges for the advancement of legislative agendas towards gender equality in Latin America and the Caribbean”, held at the permanent headquarters of Parlatino, more than 23 countries participated, which addressed issues such as sextortion, a form of harassment and corruption linked to gender violence that affects girls, boys and adults, especially people in vulnerable situations.

In this regard, Parlatino agreed to follow up on this issue and develop a model law for its classification and distribution in the national congresses and assemblies of the member countries, as a way of mitigating and giving visibility to the issue that must be attacked immediately.

For its part, the Energy and Mining Commission discussed the Model Energy Efficiency Law, for which they compared regulations with an impact on the extraction of natural resources necessary for electromobility and an environmentally sustainable economy.

A report was prepared on the socioeconomic impact of mining activity at the Latin American level, among other topics of interest to the region that have a direct impact on the quality of the environment.

Lastly, the Parlatino Health Commission discussed issues related to neurorights and the situation in the region regarding vaccination of the vulnerable population against covid-19.
