Samana. – With the participation of legislative and municipal authorities, the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) inaugurated in Samaná the V Forum of Municipal Women of the SICA Region, under the motto: “Strengthening Municipal Tourism, Promoting Female Empowerment and Entrepreneurship through International Cooperation and Strategic Alliances.”
The event was dedicated to female empowerment and the commemoration of the International Day of the Girl, with the symbolic participation of two students, from 6 and 13 years old, representing the girls of the world.
The forum was sponsored by the Embassy of the People’s Republic China in Panama, the Mayor’s Office of Panama and the Bank of Latin America (CAF), and coordinated by the Municipal Affairs Commission of PARLACEN.
It was attended by entities such as the Women’s Forum of Political Partiesthe International Women’s Collective for Democracy, the Princesses of the 21st Century Foundation and More Political Women.
Carlos Hernández, president of the PARLACENhighlighted that more than 50% of tourism ventures in the SICA region are led by women, but mostly informally and without adequate access to resources or institutional support.
Ana Reyes, mayor of Las Galeras, thanked her municipality for choosing to host the forum and highlighted its tourism potential. Also participating were the girls Jelmayhony De León Pérez, who spoke about the history of Las Galeras, and María Fernanda Gómez, plastic artist and coordinator of the International Women’s Volunteering, who delivered a work titled “Beyond Inclusion” in recognition of the deputies for their work in favor of making girls visible.
