The animal, characteristic of the tropical Andes, appeared serene and curious, which allowed the park rangers to record images at close range. According to what they said, the encounter occurred at the San Alberto checkpoint, and the bear continued on its way without showing signs of aggression or fear.
“We had never had such a peaceful approach. It was a moment that reminded us why this place is worth protecting,” said one of the park workers.
The authorities of the National Service of Protected Natural Areas (Sernanp) indicated that this type of sightings has become more frequent in recent years, reflecting the advances in the protection of the natural habitat of this vulnerable species.
