Santo Domingo .-Representatives of 600 parents of students yesterday demanded that the government, through the Ministry of Education, complete the reconstruction of the Salesian Educational Center Cristo Rey, a project that has been paralyzed for 10 months.
Speaking on behalf of the Parents’ Committee, José Amaury Rodríguez demanded that the authorities fulfill the promise they had agreed to regarding the completion of the building being built by the contracting firm Vélez y Sánchez SRL, which will house 12 classrooms, which would prevent hundreds of students from being denied the opportunity to learn.
The protest took place inside the Educational Center, where the unfinished work is located.
The Parents’ Committee of the Salesian Educational Center Cristo Rey called on the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández, to come to the aid of this educational center, since the trenches they dug to build the construction have been completely abandoned since December 2023.
It is urgent
“Please, Mr. President Luis Abinader and Ángel Hernández, we ask for your urgent intervention in this case. Here we have the problem of the lack of space for new students; in addition, those who are in the first year of high school no longer have classrooms where they can continue with the other courses at the center,” said Rodríguez.
The affected parents explained that more than 106 secondary school students will have to go out and look for registrations at other educational centers due to the lack of classrooms.
They also added that if this project is not ready by 2025, they would be denied the opportunity to educate other students who live in the Cristo Rey sector.
