Highlighting the golden double in goalball, Brazil won ten medals this Tuesday (4) at the Parapan American Youth Games being held in Santiago (Chile).
The women’s team reached the gold medal after beating Canada, by a score of 8 to 3, in the final. “I came firm and strong, I was able to help my team and contribute with goals, so we could bring the medal to Brazil”, declared Kemilly Costa, 17 years old, from Brasilia.
The men’s gold came with a triumph over Argentina, also by a score of 8 to 3. “I started the first games more anxious, but, as the competition progressed, we started to put together our defense. Then Brazil took the lead. Argentina couldn’t handle it, no”, said Bryan Rodrigues, from Minas Gerais, 17 years old and competing in his first Parapan.
In addition to the gold medals in goalball, the Brazilian delegation won eight medals in athletics this Tuesday (four golds, three silvers and one bronze). The highest places on the podium were secured by Maria Clara de Araújo, in the 200 meter T35 class (cerebral palsy), by Alex Félix de Souza, in the T20 long jump (intellectual disability), and by Fabrício Klein and Ana Carolina de Souza in the 200 meter T37 (cerebral palsy).
