Paraná Delta: more than 12 sources of different intensity remained active

Fires in the Paraná delta: the smoke affects the north and would return to Rosario

A focus in Ramallo.

More than twelve fires of different intensities were registered this Friday in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe and Entre Ríos on the Paraná River delta, while the weather forecast foresees possible “isolated rains” for these areas of the country, reported official sources.

Brigade members of the National Fire Management Plan worked in the area of the Entre Ríos islands located off the coast of the Buenos Aires cities of Ramallo and Baradero, the informants added.

In that area there was one of the biggest sources of heat that on Thursday brought the smoke from the burning to the urban area of Ramallo, whose mayor, Gustavo Perié, said that “there is a great job that is being done, with the resources that are available ”.

Perié said in statements to local media that “the dialogue with the governor (Axel Kicillof) is constant, and with the ministers of the province as well”and stressed that the municipality “is assisting” residents of the area of islands affected by the fires.

Brigade members from Entre Ríos began to operate today in the area, with a base installed in the Paseo Viva el Río de Ramallo, crossing to the area of the islands by air.

The presence of the brigade members is for “an indeterminate period of time”, considering that the affected area covers some 4,000 hectares of the wetland, according to sources from the local municipality.

The National Fire Management System reported that four fires were registered in the province of Buenos Aires, two in a “controlled” condition in the cities of Campana and Tigre, one “contained” in San Fernando and another active in Baradero.

Three foci remained lit in the Paraná delta in the province of Entre Ríos, the most important in the jurisdiction of the city of Gualegay, the report said.

While in the province of Santa Fe there were four fire outbreaks, three in a “contained” condition and one “controlled” in the vicinity of the provincial capital.

The head of Civil Protection of that province, Roberto Rioja, told Télam that from the Alvear operational base, in the south of Santa Fe, the brigade members are working on a focus in front of the town of Villa Constitución “which is quite controlled” .

The brigadistas also act in “three or four outbreaks that were in the capital” of the province, where rains are expected for tonight.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN), for its part, forecast possible “isolated rainfall” for this Friday night and early Saturday morning in the cities of Santa Fe, Paraná and Rosario, as well as the possibility of “light rains” in the north of Buenos Aires.
