The Cuban judoka Dalidaivis Rodríguez, champion in two editions of the Paralympic Games, left the team that participated in the Pan American Tournament of the International Federation of Sports for the Blind (Ibsa, for its acronym in English), held in the city of Edmonton, Canadaas confirmed on Monday by official media on the island.
The renowned athletes would take advantage of the contest to obtain the functional medical qualification, something that she could not complete during her attendance at the Ibsa World Championship held in Baku last November.
At 39, Dalidaivis decided to continue his life outside the country, a position considered a breach “of the commitment made to his country and team,” according to a note published by the sports portal Hit.

The judoka resided in the Cuban capital. She established herself in the division of up to 63 kilograms in the paralympic games London 2012 and repeated the performance in the edition held in Rio de Janeiro, four years later.
Due to her results, and despite her age, Dalidaivis was considered among the best in her current 70-kilogram division of the J2 medical-functional classification (severe visual impairment).
In addition to her Paralympic titles, the athlete exhibited in her showcase the scepters won at the Guadalajara 2011 and Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games, as well as the silver and bronze medals signed at the Colorado 2014 and Antalya 2010 universal events, respectively.
Regarding the results in the contest, the rest of the Cuban representatives won medals, including the gold medals won by José Manuel Romero (73 kg) and Yordani Fernández (+90 kg), in the J2 category.
The decision made by Dalidaivis is the most recent that has hit the Cuban sports movement in recent days during the year that is about to end.
Recently, the wrestler Reineris Andreu, double world champion among juniors, parted ways with the team that was participating in the qualifying tournament for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023, Dominican Republic, where he got the ticket with his silver medal. He was the sixth Cuban gladiator to make the decision this year, according to public Hit.
A few days ago it emerged that former discus thrower Yarelis Barrios, world medalist and recently linked to the national athletics commission on the island, arrived in the United States accompanied by her husband and daughter, after crossing the border between Mexico.
