A new Summit of Mercosur Heads of State is scheduled for this July 21, an occasion in which Paraguay will hand over the presidency of the bloc for the following semester to Uruguay.
Prior to the Summit, the LX Ordinary Meeting of the Council of the Common Market will be held. Both events will be held in person, after two years of the pandemic. The venue for the meetings will be the Conmebol Convention Center in Luque.
The previous week, from July 11 to 14, will be the preparatory meetings of the Common Market Group (GMC) and the Common Market Council (CMC); as well as the meetings of the MERCOSUR Trade Commission (CCM), the ordinary meeting of the Political Consultation and Coordination Forum (FCCP) and the extraordinary meeting of the Common Market Group.
During Paraguay’s pro tempore presidency, work focused on the revision of important instruments of the bloc’s trade policy, such as the Common External Tariff (AEC) and the Regime of Origin.
Likewise, the adequacy of the Automotive Sector to the Customs Union continued; negotiations on trade in services continued; the entry into force of FOCEM II was promoted, among several other issues.
Regarding the external agenda, negotiations continue at the Mercosur level with Singapore, which will have a final chapter in its round of negotiations during the Paraguayan presidency from July 11 to 15.
