Papu Gómez: “I went from being world champion to no one calling me today”

Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez has been completely ostracized. A couple of weeks ago he trained with him Manchegoa team of Third RFEF, thanks to some friends while passing through Spain and last week with an Italian team, also regional.

The Argentine, world champion in Qatarwas sanctioned for doping by consuming a substance, as he defended, by mistake when ingesting a syrup from one of his children.

He Seville He terminated his contract and, at 37 years old, he does not have a team. “I went from being a world champion to no one calling me today, disappearing from the media or not playing anymore. You have to know how to live with that. Neither when you are up there are you the best, nor are you the worst now. It’s just that you have to prioritize other things… After the sanction I was excited to return, but when I received the maximum penalty my world fell apart,” he noted in an interview.

Papu Gómez assures that he received notification of the sanction shortly before the World Cup final and decides not to comment anything to his coach or his teammates. “It arrived by email two days before the final. I got that he had tested positive. In the World Cup final, Having news like that reach you is horrible, I got sick those two days, I was very bad, with a fever, my defenses were probably lowered. I didn’t want to tell anyone because I didn’t want people to be anywhere other than playing in the world final. It seemed very selfish of me to go and tell something ugly like that to the kids who were about to play in a world final,” he says.
