Doctors from the Hospital of San Martín de Pangoa in the province of Satipo, Junín region, saved the life of a 17-year-old schoolboy who was run over by a truck, for this they had to perform a total splenectomy, that is, they removed his spleen, organ that was quite compromised after the accident.

As it was learned, on October 28, the schoolboy was hit by a truck in the Campirushari town center of the Pangoa district, when he was on his motorcycle and arrived at the hospital helped by passers-by. The on-call staff immediately evaluated the student who was dynamically unstable hemo (with inadequate blood flow to the organs), in poor general condition, extremely pale, and had intense abdominal pain. After being evaluated by the on-call surgeon, he was diagnosed with abdominal trauma. closed with apparent injury to the spleen due to massive hemoperitoneum.
Abdominal ultrasound and other clinical evaluations were performed, and it was clear that she required urgent surgery.

“Due to the situation in which the patient was, immediate decisions had to be made with the Hospital’s surgery team, since it is a Closed Abdominal Trauma due to a traffic accident and that in the post-surgical findings he had a splenic trauma ( spleen) grade V, hemoperitoneum and active bleeding due to splenic rupture and splenic artery. The Total Splenectomy procedure was performed due to the seriousness of the case, after more than an hour of delicate intervention, the young high school student’s life was saved. He was discharged in good health and recovered at his home, ”said the surgeon on duty, José Carlos Vásquez Cano.
