Eleven people will be brought to trial in October 2024 for crimes against the public administration to the detriment of the Panamanian Sports Institute (Pandeportes).
The guarantee officer of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, Tulia Morelos, issued the opening order for oral trial No. 189, against 11 citizens, 8 for the crime against the public administration, in the form of embezzlement and 3 for the crime against the economic order in the form of money laundering.
In this sense, the hearing date was set before the Oral Trial Court of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, on October 7, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., in room No. 5 of the Criminal Accusatory System of the Building 727 of Balboa, corregimiento of Ancón.
This hearing began on March 24, prior to issuing the order to open the trial, the judge admitted the private technical defenders, the documentary and testimonial evidence, and the expert evidence.
Meanwhile, the Public Ministry, which was represented by prosecutors Leyda Sáenz and Elvis Coronado, was admitted with 11 means of documentary evidence, 102 testimonial evidence and 22 expert evidence.
The events date from October 2018 to January 2019, when various media outlets published a series of reports stating that millions of dollars of public funds managed by Pandeportes went to sports federations linked to or chaired by politicians, who They were not properly accounted for.
