Panamanian Academy of Language has two new honorary members


The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) joins this recognition highlighting the contributions of Menéndez Franco and López, who with their writings have been recognized nationally and internationally.

The award-winning Panamanian writers, Álvaro Menéndez Franco and Griselda López, were selected as honorary academics of the Panamanian Academy of Language during its regular monthly session, which represents a well-deserved distinction for these writers with extensive experience in letters at the national level.

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) joins this recognition highlighting the contributions of Menéndez Franco and López, who with their writings have been recognized nationally and internationally.

Griselda López is a writer and journalist with a career in Panamanian social communication. She has published stories, essays and articles in national and international magazines, among which are “Piel Adentro” (1986); “Recurring Dream” (1989); “Gender, Communication and Society” (2000); “Gil Blas Tejeira: The Splendid Knight, in Protagonists of the Panamanian 20th Century” (2015); “The Layers of Time” (2017); and “Ultrasound” (2021).

For his part, Álvaro Menéndez Franco, poet and narrator, has shed light on Panamanian historical memory. His works have received national and international recognition, such as “Analysis of the work of stories by José María Núñez” (1955); “Portal” (1951); “The March of the Barefoot” (1956); and Tales and Old Tales” (1974), among others.
