The Panama national team qualified for the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2023, after beating their counterpart from Martinique last night 2-1, in a match played at the Red Bull Arena, in New Jersey.
The goals were scored in the second half through Jose Fajardo at minute 57 and michael amir murillo to 69 to seal the second consecutive victory of the Panamanian team in group C.
With this result, the Panamanian squad qualified early for the next phase, with a date to play in group C.
Fajardo’s goal came after a perfect cross from Eric Davis to score his second goal of the tournament with a header.
For Davis it was his fifth direct contribution to the score, with two goals and three assists in his last six Gold Cup games.
Murillo crowned his return to his old home, the Red Bull Arena, by scoring his second goal in a Gold Cup, both against the Martinique squad.
Murillo’s goal came after an exquisite qualification from alberto quinterohis fifth assist of his career in the Gold Cup, a figure that places him as the all-time leader for Panama in this competition.

After two dates played in group C, Panama is alone in first place in the standings with 6 points, followed by Martinique with 3.

The last date of group C will be played this Tuesday, July 4, with Panama looking to seal first place against El Salvador in Houston, and Martinique playing against Costa Rica, in New Jersey.
For today, the national team has scheduled a recovery day in the morning at the concentration hotel, followed by a training session at night at 7pm on the practice fields of the New York Red Bulls.
Players and coaching staff will be traveling to their next headquarters tomorrow, Sunday afternoon, when they take their charter flight to the city of Houston, Texas.
