Panama had requested a review of the TPC for its possible negotiation, but the United States rejected this possibility, arguing that the TPC was already underway, so it could not be renegotiated.
Panama will send a note to the Secretary of Agriculture and the person in charge of the United States Trade Office, in which it will request the review of some products, which could be affected by the Trade Promotion Agreement (TPC).
According to President Laurentino Cortizo, this note will be prepared requesting the review of highly sensitive products “for the social peace of the country”, among the products that must be reviewed are dairy products, meat (beef, pork, poultry) and rice.
Cortizo stressed that the United States is the most important partner and an ally of Panama, so he hopes that they can sit down to find a solution to the issue of these products.
It should be remembered that the United States has already rejected a request from Panama to review and negotiate the TPC.
