The Panama Basketball Quintet was eliminated in the Americas Qualifiers for the FIBA World Cup 2023 after losing 112-71 against Canada, which remained undefeated in a match held at the Expo Center in Edmonton, Alberta; Canada.
The last time that our country managed to be in a World Cup was in 2006 in Hiroshima, Japan, before it was in the World Cups in Spain 1986, in Colombia 1982 and in Yugoslavia 1970. Now we are still waiting to be able to attend a World Cup event where we have been 16 years without being able to attend.
For Panama, the most outstanding Ernesto Oglivie with 14 points and 9 rebounds, Carlos Javier Rodríguez with 13 points and 3 rebounds; Josimar Ayarza had 12 points and Trevor Gaskins had 11 points and 5 rebounds.
The best offense for Canada were Aaron Best with 22 points; Kassius Robertson contributed with 13 points; Bring in Bell-Haynes, Melvin Ejim and Conor Morgan, who each scored 12 points.
Panama will play the sixth and last window at home, to close its participation in these qualifiers on Friday, February 24, 2023, receiving the Dominican Republic and on Monday, February 27, against the Bahamas.
