The National Railway Secretariat of Panama has signed a technical advisory contract for an amount of B/.2.2 million with the American company AECOM USA. This agreement aims to review and update the Panama-David-Frontera Train Master Plan, a project that seeks to improve the connectivity and development of the country.
The contract was signed on Thursday afternoon in the Palacio de las Garzas amphitheater, with the presence of the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, who acted as an honorary witness. The signatures were signed by the Secretary of the Railway, Henry Faarup, and Aileen Flasz, country manager of AECOM Panama.
President Mulino highlighted the importance of the project, stating that the David-Panama train is an ambitious initiative aimed at connecting the country and promoting prosperity among Panamanians. “Our priority is to ensure that it is an example of sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure,” he added.
The study contemplates a comprehensive design that will meet the needs of the users and the productive sectors that will benefit from the project. It will include technical studies, conceptual design, demand analysis, budget estimates and implementation strategies. In addition, a pre-feasibility study will be carried out for a priority section of 150 kilometers and alternatives to cross the Panama Canal will be evaluated, either through a bridge or a new tunnel, in addition to the one being built for Metro Line 3. .
Secretary Faarup also mentioned that the Plan update will incorporate elements that were not part of the original 2019 design, including a section that will connect Panama Pacifico with the capital city, as well as the route from the city of David to the border at Paso Canoas.
