This Tuesday, May 10, the official launch of the World Robotics Olympics 2023 (WRO) was held, which will take place in Panama from November 7 to 9 of next year. These Olympics will have the participation of more than 5,000 visitors, including students, teachers and tutors from more than 90 countries, in the new Amador Convention Center.
Those in charge of launching the Olympics were the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, accompanied by the First Lady, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo. According to a statement, projects developed by the winners of the National Olympics from each one of the visiting countries, which will be explained by the participants, to the more than 100,000 Panamanian students and teachers who will be mobilized from all over the country to live this world-class experience and be inspired to continue their studies in science. , Technologies, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
Cortizo Cohen indicated that it is an honor and a privilege for the Republic of Panama to have been chosen by the World Robot Olympiad Association as the venue for the World Robotics Olympics, whose preparation officially begins this Tuesday.
After the official launch, a route of activities begins, which will include: the realization of Regional and National Robotics Olympics from 2022 to 2024; invitation to local, regional and global sponsors to support the sustainability of the program.
This launch is developed within the Steam Education Agenda promoted by the First Lady of the Republic, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, Ambassador of Steam Education for the Americas of the Pan American Foundation for the Development of the Organization of American States.
“STEAM” education is a novel educational model that combines science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, with problem solving and teamwork, in such a way that they can implement Steam Extracurricular Clubs in their educational centers and thus participate in the National Robotics Olympics.
