The Minister of Culture, Carlos Aguilar, reported this Monday that Panama managed to recover four of the seven archaeological pieces that were auctioned last September in Germany.
He commented that the recovery of these was achieved with the collaboration of a Canadian citizen who is carrying out procedures to become a Panamanian national, and currently the archaeological pieces are in the possession of the Panamanian ambassador to Germany and it is expected that they will be repatriated during this month of November.
“We raised our protest, we did it through UNESCO, through our embassy in Germany, but the situation continued and that auction took place, but thanks to the participation of a citizen of Canadian origin who is becoming a Panamanian national, we have been able to recover four of those pieces that were auctioned, and the ambassador of Panama in Germany has the four pieces in his possession and they will return to Panama in this month of the Bicentennial, we are going to have back those pieces that were auctioned in Germany “, Aguilar expressed.
