This Tuesday, November 29, the Ministry of Health led the Regional Meeting on Strengthening Technical Capacities in Food Safety, organized by the Embassy of the United States.
During the inauguration of the event, the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, gave the welcoming words on behalf of the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, and thanked the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) for the Republic of Panama for the support provided in the three projects completed in Panama under the framework of the Panama-USA TPC.
“Managing the safety of our food, not only what we are going to export but also what we consume, is an important issue for our country,” he said.
“These projects represent a great benefit for our country in terms of technical training, financial support, advice from technicians from the Ministries of Health and Agricultural Development, and technical assistance from external experts for the review of execution documents,” Sucre pointed out.
The Ambassador of the United States in Panama, Mari Carmen Aponte highlighted that throughout this week issues of food safety regulations will be addressed that will be of great interest in the work that each of the participants carries out.
The event is attended by representatives of Food Safety from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Panama.
At the main table were the Minister of Health Luis Francisco Sucre, Ambassador of the United States in Panama, Mari Carmen Aponte, Representative of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) for the Republic of Panama, Gerardo Escudero Columna and Agricultural Attaché of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the Republic of Panama, Peter Olson.
