Panama defeats Cuba and the US beats Nicaragua in U20 soccer

(EFE).- A single goal was enough for Panama to defeat Cuba and set foot in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf U20 qualifying round that is played in Honduras, where the round of 16 began this Saturday.

Panama won with a goal in the 66th minute through Carlos Alberto Rivera, the main figure of his team.

The canaleros are the second team qualified for the quarterfinals, after Costa Rica, which in the first game of the day thrashed Trinidad and Tobago 4-1.

On the other hand, the United States team won this Saturday in the round of 16 by beating Nicaragua 5-0 and qualified for the quarterfinals of the U20 pre-world championship.

They also sealed their pass to the quarterfinals Honduras, who defeated Curaçao 4-1

The North American team started to win at the end of the first half through Quinn Sullivan, who at 65 minutes was present again on the scoreboard and established the 2-0.

Diego Luna, from a penalty at 65; Dylan Pineda, at 72, and Jalen Neal, at 85, joined to round out the 5-0 in favor of the American team.

Honduras, who defeated Curaçao 4-1, Costa Rica, who beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-1, and Panama, who beat Cuba 1-0, also sealed their place in the quarterfinals.

The second date of the round of 16 will be played this Sunday with the matches Guatemala-Canada, Haiti-Jamaica, El Salvador-Dominican Republic and Mexico-Puerto Rico.

The U20 tournament is a qualifier for the 2023 Indonesia World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
