Panama could enter the Guinness World Records by having the longest-lived person in the world, it is Mercedes Chami Dogirama, who is 125 years old, this was verified through the recent Population and Housing Census carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC).
According to the director of the INEC, Samuel Moreno Mercedes Chami is the oldest person in Panama and perhaps in the world, as he was born on March 13, 1898. She and her family live in the Emberá Wounaan region, in the township of Lajas Blancas, a community located three hours from Metetí in the province of Darién.
Mercedes Chami Dogirama, is the mother of seven (7) children, two (2) of whom have already passed away; she also has between grandchildren and great-grandchildren 54 descendants.
And it is that according to the latest record of the Guinness Records, the Panamanian woman may be the longest-lived person in the world since at the beginning of 2023, it was reported that the Spanish María Branyas Morera, 115 years and 328 days old, was the longest-lived person in the world. . This after the death of 118-year-old French nun Lucile Randon, who passed away on January 17.
In Panama, the Census also registered a 118-year-old man residing in the province of Colón and in third place a 116-year-old woman residing in the province of Veraguas.
