In order to keep the District of Panama in good condition, the Mayor’s Office of Panama, through its Legal and Justice Department, urges citizens to collaborate with the authorities in reporting abandoned infrastructure and vacant lots without any maintenance.
Mayoral Decree 1559 of 2014, as amended by Decree 2175 of 2014 and Decree 001 of 2018, requires all owners of buildings and houses in ruins or abandoned and vacant lots or plots in the District of Panama to keep the facade of said properties clean, tidy and painted.
Likewise, they must take care of the sidewalks, keeping them free of weeds, trash and scrap metal.
If these measures are not complied with, the owners can be fined up to $5,000 balboas.
Alexandra Rodríguez, director of Legal and Justice, said that “it is important to ensure that the District of Panama maintains a good appearance, since it is our duty and obligation as citizens to collaborate with the authorities in this mission.”
